This past June at our Grant Awards Reception, held at Taos Country Club, Taos Community Foundation awarded nearly $180,000 in community grants to area non-profits. Through a competitive Letter of Inquiry process hosted this spring, the Foundation’s Core Grants Committee, comprised of 10 community members prepared a recommended grants docket for funding consideration. Funding across 7 community pathways, grants were awarded for Arts and Culture, Basic Needs, Community Advocacy, Education, Environment, Health, and Youth. At this annual event, grant checks were awarded to 50 local non-profit organizations and community projects. In attendance were representatives from each of the recipient programs, including “Carmel-by-the-Sea” the beautiful Labrador Retriever from Assistance Dogs of the West. The grants were funded by both Foundation Field of Interest and Donor Advised funds, as well as by some individual donors who elected to partner with the Foundation with gifts they requested remain anonymous. Grants ranged in size from $1,000 to the largest grant of $16,500 that was presented to the DreamTree Project, providing emergency and transitional shelter services to teens. As one attendee remarked walking out the door, “what a true testament to the strength of our non profit community – so much talent and dedication in the room. I was so pleased to be part of this event”. Taos Community Foundations total in grants awarded this fiscal year, was just shy of $1.1 million, which well surpassed last year’s granting total.
