For immediate release: 2/1/2021 For more information, contact: TCF Staff info@taoscf.org Feb. 1, 2021 – Taos Ski Valley has pledged $46,300 for charity through its annual season pass sale and will donate the funds to the Taos Community Foundation (TCF). TCF will put the money toward its Fund for Taos, which is dedicated to supporting the local area amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During its annual season pass sale, Taos Ski Valley pledged to donate $5 for each Midweek Pass, $10 for each Weekday Plus Pass, and $25 for each Unlimited Pass. Collectively, the sales generated $46,300 for The Fund for Taos. Since March 2020, the Fund For Taos has awarded over $550,000 to help with the coronavirus pandemic response including food security, senior services, and healthcare. “Our highest priority throughout this entire pandemic has been to put the well-being of our community, staff, and guests first, and one way we’re doing that is through our continued commitment to financial assistance for our local charities,” said David Norden, CEO of Taos Ski Valley. “We are sincerely grateful to our passholders who helped raise these funds, as well as to all the volunteers, community workers, and healthcare workers who have selflessly shouldered so much of the burden of this pandemic. We are committed to doing what we can to support them, and our entire region.” Including funds from the season pass sale, Taos Ski Valley has donated more than $71,000 to the TCF in the last year. In the spring of 2020, amid the urgent stay-at-home orders in New Mexico, Taos Ski Valley pledged to match local community donations to the fund up to $25,000 through the Taos Ski Valley Foundation, the New Mexico affiliate of Louis Bacon’s Moore Charitable Foundation. With matching funds, the community and the resort together donated $114,000. “Taos Ski Valley’s ongoing support of the Taos Community Foundation has been essential during one of the difficult times in our existence, and we are extremely thankful for their generous donations,” said Lisa O’Brien, director of the Taos Community Foundation. “The ski resort has also given back through employee service projects, local education efforts, and leadership through its active role on the local area EC-COAD (Enchanted Circle – Community Organizations Active in Disaster).” To learn more about Taos Ski Valley’s commitment to community and charitable giving, including its role as world’s first and only B Corp certified ski resort, please visit: https://www.skitaos.com/discover-taos/our-purpose/commitment-to-community. Taos Ski Valley raises $114k for the Fund for Taos!
Taos Ski Valley raises $114,000 for the Fund for Taos For immediate release:3/12/2020 For more information, contact:TCF Staffinfo@taoscf.org The Village of Taos Ski Valley community raised $114,000 for the Fund for Taos, which is the specialized coronavirus relief, recovery, and resiliency fund created by the Taos Community Foundation. The $114,000 came from Village residents, businesses, resort staff, and homeowners, and includes an earlier $25,000 donation and an additional $25,000 matching grant from the Taos Ski Valley Foundation, the New Mexico affiliate of Louis Bacon’s Moore Charitable Foundation. “The incredible generosity of this tiny community is staggering and we are deeply grateful for their donations,” said Lisa O’Brien, Director, Taos Community Foundation. “These funds will help us serve area residents who are struggling amid the pandemic. What makes this fundraising extraordinary is that the Village of Taos Ski Valley is also experiencing economic stress due to the closure of the ski resort, yet the residents and businesses stepped up anyway.” With fewer than 90 full-time residents, the Village of Taos Ski Valley community was able to raise such significant funds due to the $25,000 matching grant from the Taos Ski Valley Foundation. Taos Ski Valley, Inc.’s executive staff made a large contribution and the ski resort helped spread the word by encouraging skiing enthusiasts to donate, including those who don’t live in New Mexico. Local businesses, including ski rental shops, restaurants, and goods providers also made generous contributions. “During this unprecedented time, the Taos Ski Valley community has demonstrated how a small group of people can drive extraordinary results. I’m proud of our local community’s tremendous efforts and generosity in the face of this pandemic,” said Louis M. Bacon, owner of Taos Ski Valley and founder of the Taos Ski Valley Foundation. Taos Community Foundation has already distributed more than $200,000 in relief aid directly into the Taos area, including helping feed schoolchildren, supporting senior care, and working with shuttered businesses. The additional $114,000 from the Taos Ski Valley community will enable that work to continue throughout the summer as the community continues to manage the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic. This past June at our Grant Awards Reception, held at Taos Country Club, Taos Community Foundation awarded nearly $180,000 in community grants to area non-profits. Through a competitive Letter of Inquiry process hosted this spring, the Foundation’s Core Grants Committee, comprised of 10 community members prepared a recommended grants docket for funding consideration. Funding across 7 community pathways, grants were awarded for Arts and Culture, Basic Needs, Community Advocacy, Education, Environment, Health, and Youth. At this annual event, grant checks were awarded to 50 local non-profit organizations and community projects. In attendance were representatives from each of the recipient programs, including “Carmel-by-the-Sea” the beautiful Labrador Retriever from Assistance Dogs of the West. The grants were funded by both Foundation Field of Interest and Donor Advised funds, as well as by some individual donors who elected to partner with the Foundation with gifts they requested remain anonymous. Grants ranged in size from $1,000 to the largest grant of $16,500 that was presented to the DreamTree Project, providing emergency and transitional shelter services to teens. As one attendee remarked walking out the door, “what a true testament to the strength of our non profit community – so much talent and dedication in the room. I was so pleased to be part of this event”. Taos Community Foundations total in grants awarded this fiscal year, was just shy of $1.1 million, which well surpassed last year’s granting total.
