Taos Community Foundation recently received accreditation with the nation’s highest standard for philanthropic excellence. National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® establish legal, ethical, effective practices for community foundations everywhere. Taos Community Foundation offers a range of charitable funds, allowing donors to advance a cause, support an individual organization, provide flexible support for community needs or recommend individual grants. In addition to affirming the organization’s philanthropic services, the accreditation validates Taos Community Foundation’s grantmaking practices for the nonprofit community. Through philanthropic services, strategic investments and community leadership, Taos Community Foundation helps people support the causes they care about, now and for generations to come. For more information on Taos Community Foundation, please visit www.taoscf.org. “Meeting the National Standards benchmarks is a rigorous, comprehensive process,” said Randy Royster, board member of the Council on Foundations. “This accreditation is a significant accomplishment that indicates Taos Community Foundation demonstrates a commitment to transparency, quality, integrity and accountability as it carries out its mission.” The National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® program requires community foundations to document their policies for donor services, investments, grantmaking and administration. With over 500 community foundations already accredited nationwide, the program is designed to provide quality assurance to donors, as well as to their legal and financial advisors. “This is important to our work in community,” said Lisa O’Brien, Taos Community Foundation Director. “When people make a charitable bequest or establish a fund, they are putting their trust in us. They are counting on us to manage the investment wisely, honor their charitable wishes. The National Standards accreditation says our house is in order and that we are operating above and beyond what the law requires.” Taos Community Foundation connects people, and opportunities, generating resources to build a more creative, caring, and thriving community. “Grantmaking is an important investment in community” said O’Brien. “Our integrity in doing this work with accreditation, demonstrates we are a reliable partner, as we work together to meet the changing need of our community”. National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations® is the first program of its kind for charitable foundations in the United States. The Community Foundations National Standards Board is a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations and is responsible for the quality, value and integrity of compliance with National Standards. In partnership with The Robert T. Keeler Foundation and their gift of $10,000, Taos Community Foundation extended a total of $25,000 for a 1:1 match on gifts for a short-cycle initiative for emergency shelter services. In 4 weeks, over $24,000 was raised from individual donors. With other resources pledged from Taos County, the goal to raise $60,000 to provide shelter for vulnerable individuals and families was met. Grant funds were awarded quickly to Dream Tree Project and St. James Episcopal Church to facilitate the outreach and programmatic work. For immediate release: 2/1/2021 For more information, contact: TCF Staff info@taoscf.org Feb. 1, 2021 – Taos Ski Valley has pledged $46,300 for charity through its annual season pass sale and will donate the funds to the Taos Community Foundation (TCF). TCF will put the money toward its Fund for Taos, which is dedicated to supporting the local area amid the COVID-19 pandemic. During its annual season pass sale, Taos Ski Valley pledged to donate $5 for each Midweek Pass, $10 for each Weekday Plus Pass, and $25 for each Unlimited Pass. Collectively, the sales generated $46,300 for The Fund for Taos. Since March 2020, the Fund For Taos has awarded over $550,000 to help with the coronavirus pandemic response including food security, senior services, and healthcare. “Our highest priority throughout this entire pandemic has been to put the well-being of our community, staff, and guests first, and one way we’re doing that is through our continued commitment to financial assistance for our local charities,” said David Norden, CEO of Taos Ski Valley. “We are sincerely grateful to our passholders who helped raise these funds, as well as to all the volunteers, community workers, and healthcare workers who have selflessly shouldered so much of the burden of this pandemic. We are committed to doing what we can to support them, and our entire region.” Including funds from the season pass sale, Taos Ski Valley has donated more than $71,000 to the TCF in the last year. In the spring of 2020, amid the urgent stay-at-home orders in New Mexico, Taos Ski Valley pledged to match local community donations to the fund up to $25,000 through the Taos Ski Valley Foundation, the New Mexico affiliate of Louis Bacon’s Moore Charitable Foundation. With matching funds, the community and the resort together donated $114,000. “Taos Ski Valley’s ongoing support of the Taos Community Foundation has been essential during one of the difficult times in our existence, and we are extremely thankful for their generous donations,” said Lisa O’Brien, director of the Taos Community Foundation. “The ski resort has also given back through employee service projects, local education efforts, and leadership through its active role on the local area EC-COAD (Enchanted Circle – Community Organizations Active in Disaster).” To learn more about Taos Ski Valley’s commitment to community and charitable giving, including its role as world’s first and only B Corp certified ski resort, please visit: https://www.skitaos.com/discover-taos/our-purpose/commitment-to-community.
