Growing our Future

TCF’s commitment to young people begins with the goals of access to prenatal care and safe birth, then preparing children to enter school, and creating opportunities for youth of all ages to have access to quality programming that engages both their academic and social needs. Providing children and young people with the support and services they need to thrive, from healthy development during infancy through their successful transition into adulthood, is the mission of the Youth investment pathway.


Youth Impact Stories

English Language Learners Homework Camp at Taos Middle School– “I chose to tutor ELL who struggled with their grades through the year. Each child was tutored for 6 hours. I bought needed school supplies for each child – things such as paper, pencils and pens. The students were excited that their grades went up in the short amount of time they were tutored for. They felt more confident and learned with just a little help, and asking a few questions, they can get better grades. I was so surprised to see how many students were interested in staying after school to get help with their homework”.


Taos High School Business Professionals of America – Two high school and two middle school students in BPA attended the National Conference in Indianapolis. The middle school Web Site Design team took 2nd place overall, and one middle school student also placed in the top 10 for Financial Literacy. “Not having to fundraise as much at the end of the year was a blessing. I was able to concentrate on helping both my BPA students with their competitive events and my regular students with their end-of-year classwork respectively.”


Girls Circle – “These funds were utilized to keep Girl’s Circle going throughout the fall of 2014. Due to another grant that was delayed, the TCF grant enabled us to provide an innovative solution, that organized a Girl’s Circle that met once a month for two hours on Saturdays, which we called a Leadership Project. Rather than only during a short classroom period (50 minutes), we were also able to include a girl who had been in Girl’s Circle but had moved to a new school this year. The experiment of meeting outside of the school day worked really nicely! The girls enjoyed the leisure of not being rushed, of having more time for discussion and for artwork, and even requested a longer group. Funds also were utilized for planning and coordination of the upcoming groups located in the public schools. Through these activities, another three groups have been launched at the start of 2015. These groups will serve approximately 30 girls from Taos Middle and Vista Grande High Schools”.
